Behavioral Genomics: A, Bee, C, G, T

چکیده
Honeybees, termites and ants occupy the 'pinnacle of social evolution' with societies of a complexity that rivals our own. The sequencing of the honeybee genome will provide a strong foundation for studying the genetic basis of complex social behavior.

Understanding the relationship between brain gene expression and social behavior: lessons from the honey bee.
Behavior is a complex phenotype that is plastic and evolutionarily labile. The advent of genomics has revolutionized the field of behavioral genetics by providing tools to quantify the dynamic nature of brain gene expression in relation to behavioral output. The honey bee Apis mellifera provides an excellent platform for investigating the relationship between brain gene expression and behavior ...
متن کاملHspb1 and Tp53 Mutation and Expression Analysis in Cat Mammary Tumors
Background: Molecular marker based cancer diagnosis gaining more attention in the current genomics era. So, Hspb1 and Tp53 gene characterization and their mRNA expression might be helpful in diagnosis andprognosis ofcat mammary adenocarcinoma. It will also add informationin comparative cancer genetics and genomics. Objectives: Eight tumors of Siamese cats were analyzed to ascertain germ-line an...
متن کاملNew genomic resources for the honey bee(Apis mellifera L.): development of a deep-coverage BAC library and a preliminary STC database.
We have constructed a bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) library for a European honey bee strain using the cloning enzyme HindIII in order to develop resources for structural genomics research. The library contains 36,864 clones (ninety-six 384-well plates). A random sampling of 247 clones indicated an average insert size of 113 kb (range = 27 to 213 kb) and 2% empty vectors. Based on an est...
متن کاملInvestigation of GDF9 and BMP15 Polymorphisms in Mehraban Sheep to Find the Missenses as Impact on Protein
Utilization of fecundity genes such as GDF9 and BMP15 can help improve reproductive traits in sheep breeding programme. To evaluate effects of missense mutations on protein function, the polymorphisms of GDF9 and BMP15 genes were screened in twelve mehraban sheep using DNA sequencing, followed by protein structure modeling. Six single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) known as FecG mutations (G1-G...
متن کاملThe Genome and Methylome of a Subsocial Small Carpenter Bee, Ceratina calcarata
Understanding the evolution of animal societies, considered to be a major transition in evolution, is a key topic in evolutionary biology. Recently, new gateways for understanding social evolution have opened up due to advances in genomics, allowing for unprecedented opportunities in studying social behavior on a molecular level. In particular, highly eusocial insect species (caste-containing s...
